Product Care
You don't need to freeze or refrigerate vanilla beans. Any kind of airtight container will do. Make sure to keep them in a cool, dry place.
If vacuum sealed, vanilla beans should last about a year. In an airtight container, they will last 5-6 months. If you decide to keep them beyond the recommended time, make sure to check for mold before use.
You should never refrigerate or freeze vanilla beans. Refrigeration or freezing will dry out the beans and diminish the amazing flavor. It will also cause excess moisture in the container, making mold more likely to develop.
The best way to use a vanilla bean is to scrape the caviar from the inside. Simply split down one side of the bean and gently fold it slightly open. Then, take the dull edge of a spoon or knife and scrape down the inside of the bean. We recommend doing a second scrape to make sure you get as much caviar as you can!
There are many ways to reuse vanilla beans! If you just use the caviar inside them, you can put the rest of the pod into a homemade extract or infused sugar. You could also make your own vanilla powder; just dry them out in an oven low and slow, or leave them on your counter until they dry out on their own!
