Karo District

Located in the highlands of North Sumatra, the Karo district is renowned for its fertile volcanic soil, a legacy of the active volcano, Mount Sinabung.

This rich earth, teeming with essential minerals, provides an ideal foundation for vanilla cultivation. The region's mountainous terrain further enhances vanilla farming by offering well-drained slopes that promote water flow and prevent soil erosion.

These unique geographical features, combined with the cool climate and abundant rainfall, make Karo a prime location for cultivating high-quality vanilla."

Nias District

Situated off the western coast of Sumatra, Nias Island boasts a tropical rainforest climate with high humidity and consistent warmth, creating an ideal environment for vanilla cultivation.

The island's volcanic origins provide fertile, well-drained soil rich in minerals, promoting healthy vanilla vine growth. The hilly landscape also promotes natural drainage, reducing the risk of waterlogging and root rot, which are detrimental to vanilla plants

Farmers in Nias often utilize the shade of existing trees or cultivate fast-growing species like Gliricidia and Erythrina to protect their vanilla vines.

Aceh District

At the northernmost tip of Sumatra, Aceh experiences a tropical climate with high humidity and abundant rainfall, suitable conditions for vanilla cultivation.

While specific soil types vary across the region, Aceh's landscape includes fertile alluvial plains and volcanic areas, both conducive to vanilla farming. The terrain is diverse, ranging from coastal lowlands to mountainous regions, offering farmers a variety of options for cultivation.

Aceh's farmers often integrate vanilla vines into existing agroforestry systems, utilizing the shade provided by trees like coconut palms, durian, and cloves.
